Clear Lake provides a wide array of activities that both residents and visitors can enjoy. Its pride and joy is the Johnson Space Center, the largest NASA research facility. The Space Center is an avenue both for entertainment and education. Various exhibits and presentations are displayed all over Mission Control and Rocket Park. The facility also boasts of amazing rides, including its space shuttle mock-up.

Water lovers are sure to enjoy Clear Lake. Aside from boating, various water activities are also available in Clear Lake, including fishing, canoeing and swimming, to name a few. For the more adventurous individuals, there are also rentals available for windsurfing, jet skiing and parasailing.

Activities on land are also numerous. Tennis courts, golf courses and gymnasiums are also available. Clear Lake also has its own Little League. Gulf Greyhound Park is also a unique attraction, where individuals can watch and wager on the daily dog races.

Nature lovers all over the world will also enjoy the proximity of various natural wonders in Clear Lake. One such place is the Armand Bayou Nature Center, a large wilderness preserve. Ponds and trails in the nature center are filled with unique animals and birds, including reptiles and bisons.

Art aficionados will also love Clear Lake. The Arts Alliance Center can be found in the area, where various cultural and artistic performances are available all year round. Art exhibits are also displayed for viewing.

The Kemah Boardwalk is also a favorite attraction for both locals and tourists. Charming stores and beachfront restaurants are dotted all along Kemah. The area also features an amusement park, with a 65-foot high Ferris wheel, a huge Carousel, a high-speed boat ride, and a variety of carnival games. A mini-train is available to tour the area.

Shopping enthusiasts will definitely enjoy Seabrook, another attractive area in the community. Amazing finds can be bought at specialty shops and antique stores all over Seabrook. For 2 weekends every month, a craft market is set-up where shoppers can find an assortment of local treasures. There are also fresh seafood markets in the area.

Another place to enjoy is South Shore Harbor. With its world-class marina and the South Shore Country Club, individuals will surely have a luxurious time in the area.

AMENITIES

The Clear Lake community has 3 shopping malls, several area schools and universities, and 3 hospitals and numerous health clinics in the area.

A number of major educational institutions serve the Clear Lake area. The Clear Creek Independent School District offers education for all students, including those with disabilities. They also have a special program for gifted students. There are also two high schools in the area, namely the Clear Brook High School and the Clear Lake High School. There are also several colleges in and around the area. For graduate students, the University of Houston-Clear Lake is only a few minutes away. It is a public university offering more than 30 undergraduate and more than 40 graduate courses under the following schools: Business and Public Administration, Science and Computer Engineering, Human Sciences and Humanities and Education.

 

The Clear Lake area also has numerous health providers serving the community. One of the major health institutions in the area is the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, or CLRMC. CLRMC initially opened its doors to Clear Lake in 1972, and has since expanded to become its present 480+-capacity hospital. The medical center provides comprehensive medical care for various illnesses. Most recently, CLRMC opened its Heart and Vascular Hospital, connected to the original hospital by a pedestrian walkway made of glass. CLRMC has also recently expanded its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to be able to more efficiently care for newborns that are critically ill.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

The Clear Lake area is easily accessible. Driving on Interstate 45, Clear Lake is a mere 20 miles south of downtown Houston. It takes approximately 35 minutes to reach the area when commuting. A lot of residents in Clear Lake actually work in downtown Houston.

Downtown Houston offers a lot of exciting opportunities for travelers. Tour the underground tunnel system in downtown and visit the Downtown Aquarium. Art lovers will also enjoy Downtown Houston, which offers events in all of the major disciplines of performing arts, namely ballet, opera, theater and music. Downtown Houston also has a buzzing nightlife, with unique restaurants and bars packed in the area. For sports lovers, downtown Houston is the place to be. This is where the Toyota Center, home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets and WNBA’s Houston Cornets, can be found. The Minute Maid Park, home of the National League Champions Houston Astros, can also be found here.

Clear Lake also lies near Galveston. Travel to Galveston takes less than an hour when driving. The historic island is home to picturesque beaches, quaint shops and seaside restaurants serving one-of-a-kind cuisine. A fishing pier is also available at the 91st Street Pier, where a variety of fish, such as Spanish mackerel and speckled trout, can be caught. Deep sea and bay fishing tours with an experienced crew are also available in the area.

There are unlimited ways to enjoy the Galveston area. Galveston has a rich history, which tourists can enjoy while visiting the Antique Aircraft Museum and the Railroad Museum in Galveston. Seawolf Park is also a hotspot in Galveston, where a World War II submarine and a destroyer escort, respectively the USS Cavalla and the USS Stewart, can be found. For children, there is also the Moody Garden, which boasts of colorful pyramids, and the Schlitterbahn water park.

Special celebrations can likewise be enjoyed at Galveston. During February or March of every year, the Victorian area in Galveston, known as The Strand, celebrates a lively Mardi Gras festival. Meanwhile, every December, Galveston celebrates its “Dickens on the Strand” Christmas, with Queen Victoria and Ebenezer Scrooge mascots roaming the streets.
